Claude Stout
Executive Director
Telecommunications for the Deaf, Inc.

Helping people with disabilities fully participate in all aspects of life is a priority for Verizon. Our relationship with Telecommunications for the Deaf (TDI) is just one example.

"Our strategic alliance program with Verizon is a model that all other telecom companies should look up to," says Claude Stout, executive director, Telecommunications for the Deaf. "Verizon has helped TTY users in its service areas by making various services, such as 'TTY Intercept,' accessible." TTY Intercept enables users to view a message that alerts them when a dialed number is disconnected.

"We not only appreciate the many opportunities that Verizon has given us to express our views on telecommunication access for deaf and hard of hearing consumers, but we also are grateful for the numerous solutions implemented over the years," observes Claude.

Verizon technology helps the disabled share in Information Age technology by implementing 711 dialing to relay services to assist the deaf community.
Working hand-in-hand with Voices for the Minority Elderly, we secured Verizon Foundation seed money for a project that seeks to close the digital divide by creating a technologically literate network of minority organizations capable to improve the lives of older minorities.
Again, partnering with the Verizon Foundation, we assisted the National Governor's Association's Center for Best Practices in its development of an "Educational Clearinghouse" Web site. The site will be a cyber resource center for use by Governors and their staffs that will highlight the best educational programs and practices in the country.
The self-governing Verizon Consumer Advisory Board (VzCAB) is a voice of 95 million customers throughout the 38 states in which Verizon provides local telephone service. The VzCAB participates in the design and review of products to meet customer needs.
