Area Code Updates
On October 16, 2008, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) issued an Order
that adopted an all-services Overlay plan for the 760 NPA. With the new dialing
plan, all calls dialed within the 760 NPA will need to be dialed using a 1+10-digit
pattern. Key dates are outlined below:
The Permissive Dialing Period for 1+10-digit dialing will begin
on May 2, 2009 at 12:01AM. During the Permissive Dialing Period,
all calls within the 760 NPA may still be dialed using 7 digits but subscribers
are encouraged to dial 1+10 digits.
Mandatory Dialing Period will begin on October 24, 2009.
All calls within the 760 NPA must be dialed as 1+10-digits. The 760/442 NPA Relief
Plan will not affect rates or local calling areas. No existing numbers will change;
all numbers will retain their current NPA.
Starting November 21, 2009, new telephone lines or services may be assigned
numbers with the new 442 area code. Customers will be required to dial 1+ 442 digits.
Activation of the new 442 NPA will not result in any changes in Verizon rates or
local calling areas.
